A Grave InterestFiled under: Cemeteries | Photography OK, my secret is out. I am one of 'those people' who loves to wander cemeteries. It's akin to visiting an art museum. It's an opportunity to enjoy rarely appreciated sculpture, intricate carvings and detailed symbols, come rain or shine. It's a chance to let my inner storyteller weave tales around the names and dates on the stones. A totally enjoyable way to spend a day, armed with a camera, plenty of batteries and a picnic basket. Care to join me? http://agraveinterest.blogspot.com/ - last updated 30 Aug 2019 |
Retracing the Grove Westward MigrationFiled under: Personal Research | Photography After 35 years of researching my Grove surname I embarked on a 3 week 4,281 mile road trip visiting places my ancestors lived as they migrated west. Beginning in Martinsburg, WV where my great great grandparents married in 1846 and ending in Peck, KS at the 1967 grave of their grandson, my grandfather. Along the way I visited gravesites of 7 generations of Grove's as well as courthouses, museums and historical societies collecting pictures of their likely route west. http://rootiment.blogspot.com/ - last updated 7 Mar 2019 |

Afro PixThe first known existing photograph of me was taken at 6 weeks. I know that because my mother wrote "Paula, 6 weeks old, Isn't she cute" on the back. However, the reality is that most of my family pictures are not identified because no ever took a few minutes to pencil in the names on the back. With three members of my parent's generation still left, I decided its time for me to identify and memorialize the people and stories I know for future generations to come. Thus, this blog. http://afropix.blogspot.com/ - last updated 2 Apr 2017 |
